The 2nd Annual Port Jefferson Village Heritage Festival
Our Belle Terre Historian will be presenting the
History of Belle Terre Saturday, August 20th
Belle Terre Community Center 1:00 – 3:00.
Learn about the unique history of The Village of Belle Terre, one of Long Island’s premier North Shore communities. The three part presentation, as told by village historian John Hiz will explore Belle Terre’s early history, then known as Mount Misery . Through the development and failure of Belle Terre Estates, a self- contained summer club colony designed around the natural boundaries and attracted individuals of refined taste. Finally learn about the sand and gravel mining operations that led to the destruction of hundreds of acres of rural beauty that finally led to the incorporation of the Village.
